Three Feet Over, One Out for Four Up

  • When you use a ladder to reach an upper landing, the side rails extend at least 3 ft above the landing.
  • Set extension ladders at about 1 ft out for every 4 ft of working length (the 4-to-1 rule).
  • Never stand on the top or top step of a stepladder. Keep three points of contact while climbing.

Monday Morning Comics

Punch List #1, a four-panel comic. Panel 1: Rook, a first-month laborer, hurries toward a chained cone line while Bucket, a skid steer, backs up beeping "BEEP! BEEP!" Rook says: "On it! I'll grab that shovel!" Panel 2: Dale, the foreman, raises a flat hand and Rook stops on the safe side of the cones. Dale says: "Blind spot, Rook." Panel 3: The operator gives a thumbs-up from the cab and the bucket sets down with a "CLUNK." Rook, waiting on the safe side with a thumbs-up, says: "Waiting on the operator's all-clear!" Panel 4: Rook is back on the safe side with the shovel. The Inspector, off-panel, says: "Nice. Put that on the punch list... as DONE." Dale, holding his clipboard, says: "Writing it in pen."
